| The
Musem of Crime is an unusual museum which started life in 1875 - when
it was decided to keep certain items of property seized in connection with crime to instruct the young detectives in the then relatively new Detective Department of Scotland Yard. The press then gave this collection of somewhat macabre artefacts the unofficial title of The Black Museum. Housing weapons - guns, whips, Knives, burial tools and death masks made of plaster, the masks are of murderers executed in the first half of the 19th century. So it has remained now with over a thousand exhibits from the apparently insignificant to the spectacular. It is not open to the general public for on display are the court exhibits of some of the most remarkable crimes of the past 115 years. Exhibits used in the prosecution of criminals as diverse as forgers, spies, terrorists.......and murderers. |
