Arthur Whiter Soldier
Mary Ann Whiter abt 1844 became Mary Ann Theed
Start of Corres.
I am trying to find info on a Mary Ann Whiter
born abt 1844.
The 1881 census gives her birth place as Windsor.
(Our list does not show her,but recording births was not compulsory!)
Her fathers name was Arthur and when she married William Theed in 1866 her fathers occupation was given as soldier, so I think he may have been stationed in the town.
Do you have any records of an Arthur who was a soldier? I know Mary later lived in the East End of London and was widowed quite young. I would be pleased to hear from you.

What we have you can see on: http://uk.geocities.com/whiter_family
Have a look at the tables and see if anything fits, not on the tree I am
currently looking at,but we have at least three strings being looked at.The
"Aussie" is looking at Cowley/Whiter and Marilyn is lost in William's
tree. So we may be able to help

Hi David Thanks vey much for the information. The address
you have given me is the same address that my Gr Grandfather Edward (Edwin) was
born.
There is puzzle to the family, Edward's daughter Lilian, my Grandmother,
always thought her surname was Knight, it wasn't untill she went to work and her
boss started to call her Miss Theed that she knew her surname had been changed,
but she never knew the reason why. On her birth certificate she is Lilian Theed
but her marriage certificate gives her as Lilian Knight. If you have any more
information on Arthur Whiter or the Theed family I will be pleased to hear from
you. Regards Carole

Excellent. we are having trouble with Arthur whose birth
precedes 1837 data.
Cant find him on IGI or Ancestry but will continue digging.
Thanks for extra I can add to site and will ponder the Knight change david
Browsing around your site again, I saw the index
Certificates. And there
was a reference of a marriage on 27/08/1839 at St Georges, Hanover Square,
Middx.
Between Arthur Whiter, occupation soldier(was he listed as deceased?)
fathers name John
and Jane Hyde her father James
Do you think this could be the Arthur Whiter I am looking for?
Do you have any links to a John Whiter. ( did not call himself a
SilkWeaver! )

Good Lord! I had forgotten all about him.
I got some early marriage certificates to see if I could get a positive link
back to Charles Whiter and his brothers.
Parent was wrong--so I listed it and filed it.
Will have a look at the possibilities.
