(From a newspaper article)
The real meaning of Christmas seems to have been
lost....
Nowadays it seems to be more about who can buy each
other the most expensive present this year, eating too much, and/or
getting drunk.
Some people also go over-the-top with Christmas
decorations too. Not content with just a few decorations and a few
lights on the tree, Some people put up so many lights inside and outside
(mostly outside) that there is no need to have the street lamps on at
night.
Personally, i am bored with Christmas now, as it's been
going on for about a month or so now (or so it seems) seeing as the
shops start selling Christmas stuff around the beginning of October, and
on the TV they start showing Christmas adverts from November,
Now the radio station i listen to are going to be
playing every other song as a Christmas song, and Christmas is just a
week away. - I am looking forward to the 27th December, when all this
nonsense is over and done with for another year!
Yes, i do go along with some of the things that are
going on, or risk being called a miserable git, or worse still, Scrooge.
But there comes a point where someone can just have enough of Christmas
altogether.
To me Christmas is just an excuse to not have to go to
work for a couple of weeks and still get paid for it, get drunk, and try
to out-do others by buying a better present for people than anyone one
has bought them, and eating way too much food than can possibly be good
for me.
