We at the New Forest Ki Society are members of the Ki No Kenkyukai Internationale under the leadership of Kenjiro Yoshigasaki Doshu in Brussels.
We have close links with our parent, The British Ki Society. We try to have at least one of the club attend Shihan Burgess' monthly class in Coventry.
We do not do strenuous exercise but those exercises we do make for a supple body and good posture - great for later life! They also develop our natural Ki. We test this by trying to move our partner's mind and body through Aikido.
Anyone can participate in the art no matter what their capabilities - it is just a matter of adapting to ones own limitations.
Gradings are not compulsory though most people like to do them. They are not of a competitive nature which means that any grade should be achievable by anyone. As an adult (16yrs plus), to grade you will be required to join the British Ki Society and will then be able to practice at any dojo affiliated to the Ki No Kenkyukai Internationale. Those aged six to sixteen will have a separate junior grading syllabus.
Yoshigasaki Doshu believes in Aikido for all. Early grading fees are ploughed back into the local clubs to strengthen the foundation of the organisation. They are comparitively cheap - other arts have very high grading fees which are all lost from the local clubs. Doshu uses the higher grading fees to subsidise teaching in countries where money is scarce. Doshu teaches all over Europe, Africa, South America and many more places.
We strive for a positive mind and attitude. Our aim is to unify mind and body, using our whole being in all that we do.
Our posture and activity in the dojo are no different to the way we are in daily life.
