The "Papworth" surname

The Papworth surname has spread out round the world from Cambridgeshire, England. There are two parishes in the west of the county called Papworth St.Agnes and Papworth St.Everard.

The Cambridgeshire County Record Office is fortunately not too far away from my home. A good proportion of the county's Parish Registers have been transcribed and indexed, making a search for a particular surname much easier.

If you adopt an appropriate regional accent to say the name, you may realise why it was sometimes recorded as "Parporth", "Parper" or "Papper".
