The Grand Duchy Of Homburg
This small nation, on the shores of the Inner Sea, is ruled over by Prince Frederick VII, Landgrave of Hesse-Homburg. The Landgrave and his advisory council deal with all external and national affairs whilst most of the internal running of this country is left to elected local bodies. The Landgrave does, however, retain the right to overrule any decision or action of these bodies if he so pleases.
Extracts from report to the Imperial and Royal Foreign Office
from First Secretary Ruprecht, Ritter von Schleissen - October 1872.
Prince Frederick is a pleasant enough fellow if a little corpulent and hedonistic. I did note his tendencies for dalliances with young ladies of an auburn persuasion. Landgrave Frederick has remained staunchly neutral in all international dealings, resisting pressure from both France and Prussia to increase their contacts. That was until recently. The announcement of the betrothal between his daughter, Duchess Cappelia and a scion of the Prussian high nobility came as a complete surprise to many here. This was followed by the unfortunate incident in which one of my own party was impersonated in order to murder a young local nobleman connected romantically with the Duchess. Sadly, despite the best endeavours of my friends and the Homburg authorities, the perpetrator of this deed used their magical abilities to make a narrow escape. All we were left with was a few unsubstantiated connections to our dear friends the Imperial Prussian Secret Service.
