The Principality Of Hohenzollern.

Although this Principality is ruled by Prince Leopold of the House of Hohenzollern, it is a branch of the family that spilt off in the thirteenth century. No close ties exist with Leopold's distant relative, Emperor Wilhelm of Prussia.  Prince Leopold is noted as taking a distinctly independant line in his nation's foreign policy.

Ruprecht, Freiherr von Schleissen  -

February 1873

.... During my vist to the palace at Sigmaringen (capital of the principality) I found Prince Leopold to be pleasant company, especially if one enjoys playing croquet. The Prince has a great passion for this game and has several lawns surrounding his palace devoted to this pastime. The views from the high standpoint of the Palace are most spectacular. I noticed that, despite the peace and tranquility of the gardens, ther are several modern cannons in embrasures overlooking the surrounding area. These guns are of the latest French design and were apparently a personal gift to Prince Leopold from the French Emperor Napoleon the Third himself ....

.... I must recommend the apothecaries of Sigmaringen to my dear friend, Frau Berg of the Order of Cassandra.. This city has such an array of herbalists, chemists and medicine manufactories that I am sure she could retock her famed bag of tricks in a single hour here ...
