We have spent a number of years looking for Orchids and in particular good specimens for Photography.

We started using Natural Light for the pictures and then found we had to carry a Tripod with us and use film which would tolerate a time exposure.

More recently we have taken to using fill-in flash with through the lens metering to provide the Photographs that pleased us.Bright natural light provides satisfactory pictures of the main subject but can leave the surround dark and empty. This can be overcome with fill-in.

If you are on a long-haul trip to see the species then a flash gun is a necessary back-up to record the species in bad light. We have found that a long exposure on standard film can lead to colour shift.

The Photographs on these pages are converted from 35mm slides, from various filmstocks.
