The morning of 5th August 2001 looked promising, not a cloud in the sky and the sun was looking down on us smiling warmly. We boarded the two coaches at Holloway Rd. It was about 10:20 am when we finally got to our destination, the church was already full, and people were gathered outside the church. The ICON ( EIKONA TOU SWTHROS CRISTOU) of Christ the Saviour was positioned outside the church by the door greeting us all as we went passed it.
It looked as if there was not going to be a lot of people this year at the Paniyiri “ PANHGURI “ but as the day progressed more and more people were turning up. Some people were saying that this year’s PANHGURI was the biggest gathering. The was lots of music people dancing and singing. There was lots of stalls selling books, flowers, there were games people winning and loosing their money, there was “ LOUKOUMADES “ as well. But the biggest queue was... were else you think...yes you’ve got it, the souvlaki stall. POU MPOREI O KUPREOS NA KANEI CWRIS TO ””””SOUBLAKIN TOU
Lets hope next year we all gather at Chrisisitiros church Akanthou in a free Cyprus, without the Turkish army looking over us.
