Scarce migrants on the

Farne Islands, 1989

The Farne Islands are an excellent place for scarce migrants, as well as BB rarities. In 1989, in addition to the birds shown below, we had another two bluethroats. This pales into insignificance next to May 1987 when more than thirty were present on the islands. Other birds we found during our time on the islands included shore lark, great-grey shrike, Lapland bunting and Ortolan bunting.

Bluethroat, Brownsman Island, May 1989.

Firecrest, Brownsman Island, May 1989.

Icterine warbler, Brownsman Island, May 1989.

Snow bunting, Inner Farne April 1989.

With the exception of the firecrest, prints of all of these pictures are available. E-mail me for details
