Mens 5th vs – Neston South Wirral – Lost 1 - 3
A much improved performance from last week against
stronger opposition. At half time the score was one a-piece, with Mark Taylor
scoring the Chester goal. Until 10 minutes to go both sides were playing good
hockey but Neston’s second goal proved to be Chester’s downfall with Neston’s
third goal following in the last minutes of the game.

Mens 5th vs Oxton 6th - Won 2 - 0
Chester pressed hard in the first half and were duly rewarded
with two well taken goals from Ian Stringfellow and John Feeney. Oxton played
with more determination in the second half causing Chester's defence,
most notably man of the match Paul Shutler, to work hard. Chester had
many opportunities in the Oxton D but poor distribution and finishing left
the final score 2 - 0.

Mens 5ths vs Bebington 5ths
- Won 1 - 0
This match saw both teams pressing hard but unable to put
away their chances through most of the match. Phil Bond and Edwin Lewis made
some vital interceptions in defense for Chester and Joe Laws in goal handled
pressure
situations to return a clean sheet. There was a resilience to the Chester
peformance and a positive team spirit. This was rewarded when Simon Nicol
scored from a short corner in the final minutes to give Chester victory.

Mens 5ths vs Wilmslow 2nds
– Draw 1 – 1
The
first match of the league season saw Chester take control in the first half
with neat passing in midfield and round the back. Watt and Ormandy found
space up front with Stringfellow and David Bond acting as pivots in midfield.
The pressure was rewarded when David Bond pressed forward to finish simply
and put Chester ahead. Chester tired in the second half and ball retention
diminished, allowing Wilmslow to come back. A short corner seven minutes from
full time gave Wilmslow an opportunity to equalise. Chester took the ball
back down to the Wilmslow goal mouth but a second goal evaded them. A draw,
but a performance to build on.
