Pennthorpe School General
Information
Pupils range in age from 2 to 13 and are taught in three distinct but integrated departments.
The Kindergarten
The Pennthorpe Kindergarten has two
separate buildings in the school grounds. 2 and 3 year olds are
taught in the 'Honey Pot' and the 3 and 4 year olds are in 'The
Beehive'. It is very much part of the Pennthorpe family and yet
is an independent unit with its own Head and well qualified
teaching and care staff.
The Junior School takes pupils from 4 to 7. Most of the pupils are housed in the original homely Victorian building, built in 1892. It has its own Head and Class Teachers and offers a wide curriculum based on the National Curriculum but offering a broad spectrum of activities. These include opportunities for pupils to involve themselves in sport, music and drama. The friendly and busy atmosphere is ideal for bonding the children in preparation for the structured learning in the more formal world of the Senior School.
The Senior School accommodates pupils from 8 to 13 and is based on specialist subject teaching with pupils being prepared for Common Entrance Exams or Scholarship.
A brand new block of eight classrooms and a science suite is currently under construction.
Trips to expand pupils knowledge and experience form an important part of your childs education at Pennthorpe. These include visits to places of interest such as Roman villas or wildlife centres (often an extension of classroom project work) concerts, theatres and important sporting occasions.
Specifically linked with the curriculum are visits to local scientific and engineering companies. Field work trips, including a weeks geographical and scientific study on the Isle of Wight also take place. Trips to strengthen our ties with Europe include visits to the Europa Centre in Havering where pupils are immersed in a totally French environment, take place; others visit France, combining cultural visits with language experience and the opportunity to stay with French families.
Other parties are arranged such as Leadership Challenge courses, Cub camps, skiing holidays in Europe and Canada and sport and choir tours
