Pennthorpe School aims to be at the forefront of educational technology

An eye on the future

The School has two computer suites, containing 42 PC's and computers. This is complemented by numerous PC's in individual classrooms. The Computer Centre has 21 networked multi-media PCs, colour printers, scanners, Internet, E-mail facilities, and RISC PC’s.

The Acorn Room is equipped with Acorn Archimedes computers and printers and runs under a network system used regularly by all pupils from the age of 5; this is adjacent to the Technology Department and is often used in technology projects. The School library includes multi-media facilities with a Risc PC computer with CD Rom. All resources are catalogued on the computer, as is the issuing of books.

From Desktop to Laptop

Technology is now an integeral part of pupils' lives, both in and out of school, and we pride ourselves on our ambitious and sophisticated Information Technology programme.

Our state of the art Computer Centre lies at the very heart of the school and contains an extensive network of multi-media PCs linked to the latest colour printers, scanners and internet facilities.

We have pioneered the introduction of laptop computers, ensuring that all pupils remain at the forefront of the computer age. Children from Year 6 upwards frequently use laptops in their lessons and Prep. All staff at Pennthorpe are computer literate and work hard to enhance learning on the computer, whatever their subject area.

All children receive ‘formal’ ICT lessons in the Computer Centre once a week from Year 1; in addition, many classrooms have their own computer for use during lesson time. Work with computers is incorporated into most subjects and children can use them during breaks. There is also a Computer Club as part of the Flexiday Programme.
