SERGEANT-MAJOR(s)
(If possible two will be appointed: 1 x BB, 1 x GB)
1. APPOINTMENT
(a) At the Stedfast Camp AGM, Company Captains will be asked to nominate suitable young leaders who hold a position in their Company of BB Sgt/S-Sgt or GB equivalent age (17 or 18).
(b) In the event of one Sgt Major being appointed, the duties will be done by that NCO (or equivalent in GB).
(c) If aged 18 or 19 at the time of camp, Sergeant-Majors are to be registered as Brigade Leaders and have CRB checks to Enhanced Disclosure.
2. DUTIES
(a) assist the Adjutant to maintain a good discipline on the Parade Ground at all times.
(b) assist the Duty Officer as required and to report on the Duty Squads progress as required.
(c) assist the Programme Team as may be requested.
3. TENT INSPECTION
(a) at Inspection and and at Camp assembly, will remain in control of Parade Ground discipline.
(b) as directed by the Adjutant, will check the Tent Books and mark any late attendances and all absences.
(c) calculate and aggregate all marks for the Tent Competition.
(d) report directly to the Duty Officer, providing assistance as may be necessary.
(e) will obtain the services of the Duty Bugler when needed by the Duty Officer.
4. COMMANDS
(a) Sergeant-Majors are to be familiar with words of command and basic drill movements prior to Camp.
(b) commands to be used will be as directed by the Adjutants or the CO.
(c) all commands should be given clearly and precisely.
5. CHURCH PARADE
(a) Sergeant-Majors will have the honour of parading their respective Brigade Colours at Church Parade.
(b) On the first day of camp, Sgt-Majors should obtain the Colours and ensure that ferrules and finials are shined and that carriers are polished.
6. LAST SATURDAY
(a) will provide assistance to other heads of departments as directed by the Adjutant to ensure the closure of Camp.
(b) If there is work outstanding after the close of Camp, the Sgt-Majors will report to the Quartermaster to provide assistance in tidying the camp site and packing QM Stores items.
7. CHILD PROTECTION REGULATIONS
(a) If aged under 18, Sergeant-Majors are to be billeted in their appropriate Boy/ Girl Company Tent (Child Protection rules).
(b) If aged over 18, Sergeant-Majors are to be billeted in Staff Lines (noting that they are to be Registered Leaders and CRB checked).
The Sergeant-Majors are accountable to:
(a) their respective BB or GB Adjutant
(b) their respective Company Captain
(c) the Duty Officer
(d) Inspecting Officers
(e) Programme Team Leader
