DUTY (ORDERLY) OFFICER
(Officer of the Day)
1. APPOINTMENTS
a) The six Duty Officers will be decided before Camp by the C.O. and/or the Camp Convenor and will be published in the Stedfast Camp Handbook.
b) The C.O. will usually be Duty Officer for both Saturdays
c) Six other 6 Officers will be appointed to cover Sunday to Friday from Retreat to Retreat.
2. DUTIES
a) assist the C.O. when required.
b) remain on the Camp Site for their day of duty.
c) maintain the strict security of the Camp Site, reporting all intruders to the Camp CO and the Safety Officer.
d) wear a red armband or other distinguishing item and carry a whistle.
3. PARADE GROUND DUTIES
a) to ensure that campers and members of staff are not sitting around the flag pole on any chair or bench.
b) to ensure game are not played and to prevent unnecessary strolling across the Parade Ground.
c) will command Orderly Buglers to sound calls at the Flag Pole as necessary.
d) will raise/ lower the Union Flag at Reveille and Retreat.
e) after First and Second Dinner Calls will conduct the meal parade into the Mess Tent assisted by the Sergeant-Majors.
4. MESS TENT DUTIES
a) will manage the discipline and decorum, using a whistle if needed (noting that shouting is not the answer!)
b) will request a prayer from table/ tent (in rotation) at each meal sitting.
c) makes daily announcements and may invite announcements to be made from C.O., Adjutants or Programme Team Leader, etc.
d) announces the menu for each serving.
d) requests servers to be ready to serve (if not done by the Mess Officer).
e) indicates to each table that they can collect their meals.
f) after each meal, will ask for plates, etc, to be passed to the end of each table for collection from the Mess Squad.
g) give permission for campers to leave the Mess Tent during meals and after meals have finished.
The Duty Officer is accountable to the Adjutants.
