ORGANISER/CONVENOR
This post does not attract an honorarium.
(a) Basically, the Convenor "convenes" (brings together) Stedfast Camp by working on behalf of the Stedfast Camp Council to organise, plan and execute Stedfast Camp on behalf of the Stedfast Camp Council.
(b) The post is usually for a 3 year renewable term that involves working for 12 months of the year to ensure that there will be a Stedfast Camp and is one of the most senior positions on the Council.
(c) This is done by engaging with camp site hirers, negotiating prices and gathering information and feeding back to the Stedfast Camp Executive and at Council AGM's.
(d) There is a hefty amount of networking to find suitable a suitable CO, Chaplain and other key jobs that need doing and ensuring that heads of departments are doing the correct level of planning. This involves closely working with just about everybody.
(e) Other people like the Church for Parade, the Police for Church Parade, Fire & Rescue, Local Hospitals and Surgeries all need to be aware that we are there and will or may require their services for our week at camp - and this is another part of networking that the Convenor does!
(f) Again, rather basically explaining this, the Convenor does everything possible to make sure we have a Stedfast Camp and that everyone has a great week under canvas!
(g) The Convenor currently double-hats as the Camp Secretary.
(h) On the first day of Camp, the Convenor will "convene" the first Stedfast Camp Staff Meeting with all staff and Sgt-Majors to:
1. Welcome everyone to Camp.
2. Explain what has happened since 11:00 today.
3. Identify staff who are unaware of their duties.
4. Review Brigade Policies & Regulations concerning
a. Child Protection
b. Conduct & Responsibility
c. Personal Accountability
d. “Staff night out”
5. Review the Camp Handbook
6. Call upon the Camp Chaplain to dedicate Camp Staff and will ask for names of particular campers who may need our help.
7. Hand over Camp to the Commanding Officer.
