PROGRAMME TEAM LEADER
1. PROGRAMME TEAM LEADER - BASIC SKILL REQUIREMENTS
a) This is an annual appointment that requires a substantial amount of preparation.
b) The involvement of this job will be explained to the nominee before any appointment is accepted, so there is no misunderstanding about the amount of pre-planning required.
c) the Team Leader (PTL) should have a strong leadership experience motivating and working with adults in a large and diverse team.
d) the PTL should be astute regarding the delivery and reception of activities by campers and should have alternative activities to draw on should an activity fail to be received well by the campers.
e) the PTL should draw upon the expertise in the immediate team and should be able to encourage other Camp Staff with suitable skills to take a lead in certain activities if possible.
2. PLANNING THE PROGRAMME
a) There will be a need to liaise by phone or email with those appointed to the Programme Team, the CO, Treasurer (regarding budget) and the Convenor.
b) The programme has a direct impact of the menus prepared by the QM and Cook, so a copy of the whole camp programme must be provided at least 2 months prior to the start of camp. This programme will be agreed by the CO and Convenor before issue.
c) the Programme Team should ensure that Stedfast Camp enjoys the natural surroundings and makes use of local attractions and that expensive travel costs are kept to an affordable cost.
d) the local tourist board and the camp site hirer will make such attractions available on their brochures, etc
3. RISK ASSESSMENT
a) It is a BB and GB Regulation that Risk Assessments are carried out by the person responsible for organising an activity. The assessments need not be lengthy but notes are to be taken and retained and availabe to the CO and Safety Officer if required.
b) it is possible that some activities can be planned and risked during the week, allowing for more demanding activities to have a planning lead of two days.
c) Arrangements with activity providers (such as swimming pools and activity centres) can be made using the Internet or Telephone (or both) and payment can be arranged for either on the day or in advance (by arrangement with the Treasurer & Convenor).
d) Risk Assessments are to be forwarded to the Camp Organiser/ Convenor (by email) no later than two months before camp starts.
4. WATER ACTIVITIES (HAZARDOUS)
a) the PTL will not arrange any water sports, such as boating, surfing or air bed relaxation in the sea as these activities are FORBIDDEN by Stedfast Camp rules.
b) swimming in the sea or in leisure centre pools are encouraged to be planned in the programme.
c) the PTL will draw upon the resource of the Stedfast Camp Life Saver and other Camp Staff (a minimum of 6 in the sea) to enable the activity to proceed.
d) the PTL will call upon the services of the First Aider and/ or Safety Officer as required.
5. TEAM LEADER RESPONSIBILITIES
a) to conduct risk assessments against each activity as necessary.
b) to keep an Accident Book (or have use of the Camp's Accident Book) to record any injury or near miss.
c) to deliver an exciting and demanding programme to the agreed timetable.
d) to ensure that campers are at meal-times as agreed by the Quartermaster.
e) to co-ordinate the Programme Team to provide a well-balanced programme of activities and competitions at Camp during the week
f) to deliver the regular features at Camp: Camp Concert, Sports Activities and Competitions, Camp Supper and Outings.
g) to employ the Sergeant-Majors as necessary to assist with events.
h) if required, to devising some early morning warm-ups - "Gunfire" - according to the programme.
6. PROGRAMME BUDGET MANAGEMENT
a) liaise with the Camp C.O. designate, Quartermaster and Treasurer regarding costs.
b) obtain details of the Budget allocated to the Camp Programme from the Treasurer. (this should have been declared at the previous AGM).
c) provide details of anticipated expenditure (if insufficient funds) to the Treasurer who may allocate funds after consulting the Camp Convenor.
d) if authorised, purchase prizes for the Camp Competitions within a budget set. This will be funded from the Stedfast Camp General Account unless an allocation of funds has been made to the QM Account.
The Programme Team Leader is accountable to the Commanding Officer (CO) and will report to the Camp Convenor.
