PR4 Life Saver

LIFE SAVER DUTIES

1. QUALIFICATIONS FOR POST
a) The Life Saver will hold a recognised certificate of competence issued by a national regulating body.

2. RESPONSIBILITY
a) He/She will be responsible for providing the following resource to Stedfast Camp, providing rescue and assistance as necessary
i) at beach or swimming pool attendance.
ii) at any water activity or anywhere near water hazards

3. PROGRAMME
a) If requested by the Programme Team Leader, the Life Saver will be required to keep watch in the Sea or Pool.
b) The Life Saver may give swimming techniques to campers.

4. SAFETY
a) The Life Saver will observe any dangerous behaviour by campers or other swimmers and will take the appropriate action, which could be:
i) Notify the swimming pool attendant.
ii) To take action to prevent further occurrences.
iii) To exclude the swimmer or swimmers from the pool or sea.
iv) To report incident to the CO or Safety Officer and to record incidents in the Incident Book or on any other written form or document.
b) The Life Saver will call upon medical help from either the Stedfast Camp First Aider or from the Emergency Services as appropriate.
c) If an incident or accident occurs in a public swimming pool, the Life Saver and/ or First Aider will ensure that a report has been entered in their Accident Book and that a photocopy is retained for Stedfast Camp/ Brigade Ins
The First Aid Officer (MO) and Life Saver are both responsible to Stedfast Camp Council Captains and the CO.

The Life Saver is a common resource for Stedfast Campers to seek assistance from and is there to take action appropriate to his/ her skills, qualifications, training and duties.
