QM ASSISTANT(S)
(up to 2 Staff may be appointed)
1. Under the direction of the Quartermaster or Cook, they will
a) assist the in daily assigned duties.
b) ensure the cleanliness of the Cookhouse, QM Store and Equipment.
c) work as a team to supervise cleaning of cooking equipment, ranges, fridges, freezers, etc.
d) will wash and clean heavy cooking containers, dixies and equipment.
e) ensure that the QM and Washing-Up Squads should not handle for Health & Safety reasons.
f) ensure that washing-up bowls are put outside the marquee for washing cutlery after meals.
2. QUARTERMASTER'S SQUAD
a) If a Washing Up Supervisor is not appointed, one QM Assistant will be appointed to that supervisory duty and will follow the Duty description as shown on this web site.
b) The QM Squad will assist the QM Assistants to
1. ensure that all QM Equipment has been washed and dried and returned to the Cookhouse.
2. to assist with the hygienic preparation of food, including pealing and washing potatoes and vegetables.
3. to ensure that any QM implements have been returned to the Cookhouse from the washing up squad.
4. to ensure that all washing towels, mops, sponges, scourers and washing up liquid and detergent is returned to the QM Stores.
5. to clean and tidy washing up surfaces as directed by the QM or QM Assistants.
3. SAFETY - HOT WATER HANDLING
a) the QM and Assistants will ensure that no camper will handle boiling hot water or hot implements.
b) hot water is to be drawn from the cookhouse by ADULT staff by permission of the Quartermaster or Cook.
c) bowls and baths are not to be over-filled.
d) spillage is to be dealt with immediately and duck boards or straw is to be laid over soggy turf or soil by arrangement with the Equipment or Safety Officer.
The Quartermaster Assistant is to supervise and mark on the performance of the WASHING-UP SQUAD.
The Quartermaster Assistants are accountable to the Quartermaster and Cook.
