QM6 Equipment Officer

EQUIPMENT OFFICER (and ASSISTANT)
Note: The Equipment Officer may appoint one Assistant Equipment Officer as a Safety Officer. Otherwise, the Equipment Officer will also be the Safety Officer and will carry out the duties of the Safety Officer.

1.
FIRST DAY OF CAMP
The Equipment Officer (and Assistants) will
1.1 check
Calor Gas and Water Supplies, reporting empty bottles for recharging to the Camp Treasurer who will arrange the replenishment of upplies.
1.2 ensure that Water Supplies
are available in the Cookhouse and that HOT WATER is available for the QM and Cook.
1.3 ensure that soap, toilet rolls and water are all available in the
washing areas and toilets within the first hour. This will require the assistance from the First-Aider (MO) for female tents.
1.4 ensure that the
FIRST AID TENT (as allocated by the CO) is furnished with a Bed and Chair.
1.5 undertake the terms of reference for the Safety Officer (see details on this web site) unless a Safety Officer has been appointed.
1.6 number tents for Boys and Girls lines as directed by the CO or Adjutants.
and will also
1.7 assist the Adjutants in providing an element of
Camp Craft training to all Campers.
1.8 be familiar with
waste and effluent disposal regulations set by the camp site hirer.
1.9 be familiar with
camp recycling policy and waste collection days by local authority.

2.
DAILY ROUTINES
2.1
checks on camp equipment, including routine maintenance
2.2 review the
security of the canvas, ensuring that it is properly maintained, advising Tent Commanders accordingly where adjustments are to be made and providing training as necessary.
2.3 checking that all tents have the necessary number of tent and brailing pegs.
Broken pegs are replaced and disposed of environmentally.
2.4 disposal of all waste and cleaning the latrines is done in accordance with the site hirer's rules by the Equipment Officer and his Assistants.
This should be done during Inspection and children are not to be involved [Camp Craft Regulation - Training Manual 2008].
2.5 ensuring that electricity, gas and lighting is available when needed.
2.6 position the battery beacons and floodlighting suitably at night.
2.7 check that all washing bowls have been properly cleaned.
2.8 ensures that soap, toilet rolls are in place and that water is available and working.

The Equipment Officer and Assistants may only undertake their duties if accompanied when undertaking repair or inspection of canvas and tent poles in the female lines of tents. [AGM 2005]

3.
EQUIPMENT
3.1 ensures that
games equipment is issued and is set up as needed by the Programme Team, enlisting the help of the Equipment Squad if needed, ensuring that items are returned to the Equipment Tent after use.
3.2 checks with the Quartermaster on the availability of Calor (LPG) Gas and will arrange replacement cylinders in accordance with the site hirer's instructions.

4.
PROVIDING INSTRUCTION & THE EQUIPMENT SQUAD
4.1 will
direct and supervise the duties of the Assistant Equipment Officers and the Safety Officer (if appointed) and will provide instruction where needed.
4.2 will
assess the performance of the EQUIPMENT SQUAD for the Adjutants.

5.
SAFETY
5.1 t
he Equipment Officer will ensure that no camper comes into contact with hazardous materials and substances or human waste. [BB Camp Regulation]
5.2
the Equipment Officer and Assistants will ensure that no camper whatsoever carries any boiling water from the cookhouse to any location. Boiling water is only to be carried by the Quartermaster, Cook, Equipment Officer and Assistants as directed by the Quartermaster only. [BB Camp Regulation].

6.
LAST DAY OF CAMP
6.1 will see that all Equipment belonging to Stedfast Camp is returned to the Quartermaster.
6.2 upon checking with the QM, that all gas taps and appliances are turned off and disconnected.
6.3 the Camp Generator and Fuel Tank are returned to the QM.
Noting that the following Child Protection Rule applies

The Equipment/ Safety Officer is accountable to:
a) The Quartermaster for Canvas and Equipment care, repair, replacement and return of items to QM Store.
b) The Commanding Officer (CO) and the Duty Officer.
c) The CO for Site Security.
