Website Resources

This page contains all the resources you need to create and upload your own RSGB Regional Website based on these pages. All the software you need is downloadable from the internet as trial versions.

The Steps you need to take are as follows...

  1. Downloading the Source Files
  2. Unzipping the Source Files
  3. Editing the Source Files
  4. Getting your own counter
  5. Joining the RSGB Region Webring
  6. Uploading Your Site to your server
This will work on most PCs running Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000. I cannot tell you how to do this on a Macintosh, so you're on your own!

Downloading the Source Files

Click the image to the right, and then select 'Save to Disk'. This file contains all the pages and images contained on this site in one archive (You may recognise this as a Winzip file).

Unzipping the Source Files

To extract the files from this archive, you will need to have WinZip installed on your computer. A trial version can be downloaded from http://www.winzip.com/.

Editing the Source Files

It is often said, there is more that one way to skin a cat...

This site was written with nothing more than notepad.exe inside Windows. Alternatively, you can use a variety of shareware HTML authoring tools either from TUCOWS or commercial offerings.

Getting your own counter

Go to The Counter and sign up for a counter. If you set your counter to display just the numbers and then set up your colours like this in the 'Advanced' settings...

All you have to do is edit your ID in the code in the Sidebar.

Joining the RSGB Region Webring

Click the icon to the left to be taken the RSGB Regional Webring Sign up page (Alternatively, click the icon on the front page).

Once accepted, you will receive the code to insert into your front page, you can get away with just editing the ID if you wish!

Uploading Your Site to your Server

Once you are happy with your website, you will need to upload it to your Internet Service Provider's Site - This is normally done with an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) Program. One of the better known is WS_FTP, available from Ipswitch.
