Bus Stop Prank No Joke For Some

Pranksters turned a bus shelter on New Road into a living room overnight.

The shelter received a bizarre make-over under cover of darkness at the end of June.

The brick structure was overnight transformed into luxury accommodation with a chair, television, lamp, stereo system and even a fake fireplace.

Passers-by had a good laugh at the sight, but families living nearby were less than amused to be woken in the early hours as vans appeared and a group of young men unloaded furniture.

District Councillor Fred Watkins was one of those not amused:

"Although it is a little bit of a laugh it would be better if the people who did it cleared it away, because otherwise it becomes a form of fly-tipping and isn't very funny.

The make-over came just a month after clandestine gardeners transformed the shelter into a turfed garden complete with gnome and windmill.

John Birchall, spokesman for Norfolk County Council, did see the funny side, however.: "We will be arranging for a council tax bill to be sent to whoever is responsible," he joked.

Hethersett Web Comment: No real damage done and we should have a good laugh about this one.
