ANTHONY THOMAS CECIL HAWKINS
Anthony THOMAS CECIL HAWKINS was born on 3rd April 1893 in Sculcoates, Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire,
the son of Anthony HAWKINS and Elizabeth WEEKS. (Source:- "Birth Certificate" of

A photograph shows him as a young boy with his mother and step-sister.
His father died in about 1902 when he was just 9 years old.
In 1905 he had an address at 3 Promenade Villas whilst his mother was living at 24 Wilberforce Street, Hull. It is
believed that she died some time later.
He then attended the "Royal British Orphanage School", Slough. It is uncertain when
he entered the school, but, from letters it would appear that he left in 1908/09.
In 1908/9 on leaving the Royal British Orphanage School he became an apprentice with the Hull and Barnsley Railway
In 1912 he enlisted in the Royal Engineers.
A photograph taken at this time shows him as a Lance Corporal.
In 1915 he was promoted to Corporal, and in the same year whilst stationed at Fort Bovisands in Plymouth, Devon
met and married Gwendoline Maude CORY in St. Peters Currch, Plymouth on 11th. December 1915. (Source:- Mariage Certificate

In 1918 he was promoted to Sergent Major - Warrent Officer Class 1.
In 1919 on 14th July he was demobilised from the army. (Source:- Character Certificate
number 23479).
After his army discharge he moved from Plymouth, with is wife and two children to Kopji Top, Mevagissey in Cornwall
where he worked as a Marine and General Engineer.
In 1921 he moved to Kestle, in Cornwall.
In 1922 he became an engineer and later the Manager of Kingsdown Mine at Sticker, Cornwall.
In 1925/26 he moved to Guadaloupe, Sparry Lane, Carharrack and became the Manager of Tincroft Mine, Pool, Cornwall.
In 1927 he became the Manager of Mount Wellington Mine, Cornwall.
In 1930 he moved to Hicks Mill.
In 1934 he became the Manager and engineer of several mines in Cornwall.
In 1937 he bought Trelissick Farm at Tregony in Cornwall and settled to farming.
In 1955 he moved to Foredowns, at Cardinham on the edge of Bodmin Moor.
