City Pastors Prayer Breakfast Report - Wednesday 21 March 2007

Do The Resurrection Shuffle

Present: Carol Bailey, Keith Howarth, Paul Larcombe, Russ Parkes, Lars Pettersen, John Price, Graham Timson, Sharon Walker, David Whitlock

Paul led the prayer, observing that Easter was only a couple of weeks away and that all-present would be proclaiming the resurrection message in various ways. Events mentioned included PCC's Easter presentations on 31st March and 1st April; The Good Friday March of Witness, at which Sharon Walker will be speaking; the new Anglican tradition of shining shoes on the steps of the Guildhall on Maundy Thursday.

For all of these the central issue is resurrection:

'If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is our faith.' 1 Corinthians 15:14

'And If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.' 1 Corinthians 15:17.

'But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep.' 1 Corinthians 15:17.

Prayer responses included:

  • 2 Corinthians 4:10 'We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.'
  • Prayer for the Church to be unlocked and released
  • The song: "And I will rasise him up"
  • Prayer that we may proclaim resurrection and new life
  • Blessing for all the above initiatives and others

Prayer was also made for Sharon Walker, who has been asked to be Chaplain to the Mayor.

David Whitlock confirmed that the visit of David Beer from Purpose Driven UK will now take place on Wednesday 18 April. Carol confirmed that a room was available from 9.30 am to 12 noon and that bacon butties could be served from 9.30 am. Consequently, there will be no 8 am prayer breakfast on that day.

It was agreed that a gift and travel expenses would be given. The journey would be a round trip of about 200 miles. Paul will send an email to prayer breakfasters to enable this to be collected and paid.
