City Pastors Prayer Breakfast Report - Wednesday 30 May 2007

Present: Carol Bailey, Tim Edworthy, Keith Howarth, Paul Larcombe, Jono Miller, Chris Moreton, Lars Pettersen, Graham Timson, Sharon Walker, David Weeks.

Paul spoke about his recent visit to United Christian Broadcasters at Stoke on Trent to be Chaplain of the Day during Prayer Week. This involved live broadcasting and recorded interviews throughout the day. Paul said that during one of the interviews he had been asked about to talk about how church leaders in Peterborough meet together. He used the phrase 'precious unity' from Psalm 133 to describe the way that church leaders from different streams and denominations meet together.

Paul started the prayer using John 10:10 'The thief comes only to kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.' This passage contrasts the motives of the thief and the shepherd. In relation to our 'precious unity' Paul urged prayer for protection and fulness of life.

Prayer developed along the following lines:

  • Preserve the unity - Lars from Ephesians 'Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.'
  • Unity doesn’t mean uniformity
  • Guard our hearts...
  • Taken us beyond our doctrine
  • Working together and awe
  • Spirit of contribution not competition

Once again an excellent breakfast was prepared by our resident chef, so special thanks to Carol Bailey.

Future meeting dates:

Wednesday 14 November
Wednesday 28 November
Wednesday 12 December

These are all at the Peterborough Salvation Army in Bourges Boulevard, New England.
