City Pastors Prayer Breakfast Report - Wednesday 7 March 2007Go Directly To Jail - Do Not Pass Go!Present: Claudio Coquet, Rod Elston, Paul Larcombe, Russ Parkes, Lars Pettersen, John Price, Graham Timson, Sharon Walker, David Whitlock, Pauline Wills. Prayer Breakfasters had to be comforted on their arrival. They had already been warned in advance that the usual full English breakfast would not be available, but as they arrived they were shocked to find that neither was the toast! They were, however, greeted with tea and coffee and were grateful to Paul at the Salvation Army for that. Both Carol, who was away for a week, and Keith, who had been ill, were greatly missed. David Beer is said to be making a good recovery and has suggested a new date of Wednesday April 18th to facilitate a session on Purpose Driven UK. It would probably be from 9.30 am to 12 noon. A couple of people said they would be unable to make this date, but asked if the session could be taped. Paul and David Whitlock will confirm the date and check with Carol re availability. Graham Timson spoke about the Heartland meeting that he had attended with Paul Larcombe on the previous day. Heartland is a group which facilitates prayer across the Midlands. Graham gave an account about the Mayor in Derby, who was using his office as an opportunity to preach and illustrate the Gospel in every school in the city. He also gave an account of an Assistant Governor in a private prison who came to faith in Christ and has facilitated the provision of GOD TV in every cell in the prison. They have seen 120 conversions there. Graham read from Acts 5:17-30, 'Then the high priest and all his associates, who were members of the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy. They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out. “Go, stand in the temple courts,” he said, “and tell the people all about this new life.”' Graham stunned all present by saying that he had said to his wife, Maureen, at the weekend, "I am ready to go to jail, if necessary." They had been talking about the new laws and policies being introduced into this nation and saying that proclaming the Gospel will cost us. Prayer followed and the following prayers emerged:
As the prayer concluded and as no full English breakfast, nor any toast, were available the prayer breakfasters dispersed looking visibly thinner and hard done by.....except for one or two who realised that the Salvation Army's cafe had by now opened up and were ordering themselves a hearty breakfast! Thanks to Graham for leading the challenging and thought-provoking time of prayer. |
Future meeting dates:
