By Andy Lanning 29-4-07 Re: HOPE 2008

Well said Lars! I fear that we are loading more “doing” on the already stretched resources of the churches. In most churches it’s the same group of people who do most of the work. People only have so much time, and an additional set of meetings and initiatives to urge the church to do something the church is doing, or should be doing as a matter of routine, seems a bit back to front to me.

Less “doing” and more “being”

By Lars Pettersen 21-2-07 Re: HOPE 2008

I cannot help wondering why we need a name in order to fulfil our calling as the church of Jesus Christ.  Is it not possible to encourage one another in our corporate discipleship without effectively blowing our own trumpet?  I believe it is worth revisiting the Sermon on the mount (Matthew 5-7) along with the most important commandments (Mark 12:29-31) and The Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) which, as someone once said, is not the great suggestion!  My friends, we need to get back to basics where our faith and ministry are concerned.  In other words, steep ourselves in prayer allowing God to transform us that He and we in turn will bring the transformation for which many of us long not only within the city, but also, and actually primarily, within the church!  However laudable HOPE 2008 might sound, is it not simply yet another one of a long list of initiatives which circumvent the fundamental question which still rings out from Heaven to humanity; “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9)?  My growing conviction over the past ten years is that it is only when the church discovers the vitality of prayer and living in the light of it that real and significant advancement of The Kingdom of God is witnessed.    Therefore, let us aspire to become more like the praying church about which we read in Acts so that our Lord will enable us also to live and work in His power and for His glory here in Peterborough, in Cambridgeshire and beyond….

By Claudio Coquet 24-1-07 Re: Report 10 January 2007

Dear Paul,
You say something about this country not having corruption. That is true government wise, but socially speaking there’s much corruption: drug abuse, alcohol abuse, single parenting, gay rights, just to mention the ones I think are more relevant.
The government is still under the strong influence of better days of Christianity in the land, but little by little corruption is ascending to higher levels of authority.
As the Church we have the responsibility and power in the HS to bring a change. In my humble opinion if we start confronting the enemy and society in a bold way we will see important changes take place, but if we continue to embrace this new “non confrontational” type of Christianity we are being led to live…well then corruption will be even worst than in the 3rd world.
The heart of man is the same in China, Argentina and Europe; the wealth on men can really make corruption more sophisticated and dangerous and farther reaching.
In Haiti they do boo-doo and they are the only ones affected by it, in America and Europe we produce The D’Vinci Code and many porn flicks which affect the entire world!

Just a different view. Thanks

Dear Claudio
I had a feeling you might pick me up on the way this was worded. I fully agree with you and didn't mean to imply there was little corruption here. I should have added that, on the day, we prayed for corruption in the UK to be exposed and brought into the light. I also said that we need to step up our prayer to ensure that it doesn't spread.

I also meant to add a link in the report to the online journal that I kept whilst I was in Argentina. Click here to see the online journal, including photographs:
