Peterborough Hope 2008 Planning Meeting - 25 April 2007

Meeting at Peterborough Community Church Wednesday 25 April 2007.

Present: Chair Dave Smith (PCC), Jonathan Baker (Peterborough Cathedral), Teresa Brown (Shire & Soke, Ecumenical) Simon Campling (CROPS), Paul Larcombe (St Paul’s Church), Chris Moreton (Southside Methodist Church), Graham Timson (Church on the Rock, Elim)

Apologies from David Jennings (All Souls RC Church) and David Whitlock (Bretton Baptist Church). Dave Smith began with prayer.

Discussion & action:

1. 17 May – Laurence Singlehurst at PCC

Lunchtime meeting12-2pm begins with lunch (donations welcome).

Dave Smith will introduce the planning team and Laurence.

Laurence to talk for an hour, plus discussion – in small groups at tables, each table led by a member of the planning team.

Evening meeting 7.30-9.30 begins with tea & coffee & follows a similar format.

Lunchtime is for leaders (and key leaders), evening is for leaders & leadership teams, including youth leaders.

Paul will draft a letter from the team, to be sent out by Teresa to all the churches in Shire & Soke, with details of this event. Paul said that because this date was also Ascension Day, some C of E ministers would be involved in a Deanery event in the evening, but hopefully they would respond to the lunchtime invitation.

Teresa agreed that details of this day & Hope 2008 plans would be advertised at the Shire & Soke Lunch the previous week (8 May).

2. Prayer strategy – Paul Larcombe

Paul gave out copies of the proposed Prayer Strategy and Prayer Items for April. (blue sheet) These include ideas still to be discussed and resources needed for actions.

3. Roles & responsibilities

Advocates/champions were discussed at the last meeting, and it was agreed that on the national Hope 08 website, Teresa is the first point of contact as Secretary, with Simon and Matt as the youth leaders’ contacts. Other contact with the local press and in the city will be important. Caroline Cameron (Head of Management at PCC) will join our meetings to help in various ways.

4. 13 September – Roy Crowne at PCC.

7.30pm Evening launch/celebration is for all congregations as well as church leaders and leadership teams, to prepare for HOPE 2008.

5. Finance

In order to finance events and publicity, the suggestion is that each church donates £1 per member of an average Sunday adult attendance, rather than membership, by the end of 2007.

An early donation of £100 from each church already committed to Hope 08, paid to Shire & Soke, would finance initial costs. Teresa will discuss and confirm this with their Treasurer.

6. AOB

Through Shire & Soke, Teresa has a list of Northants church leaders who have already endorsed HOPE 2008, including Ian Cundy (C of E Bishop of Peterborough), Alison Tomlin (Methodist Chair of Northampton District) and Terry Oakley (Moderator of the East Midlands Synod of the United Reformed Church). Other regional ministers in the East of England who cover Peterborough are to be asked too – including RC, Salvation Army, Baptist, Elim, AOG and Ground Level.

Simon said he had met with a group of Community Centre leaders and told them all about Hope 2008, as he said he would at our last meeting. Simon also offered to set up a googlemail address whereby we could all keep in contact more easily, when we wanted to email everyone on the team.
