Welcome to the Prickly`s Patch web-site:
This web-site has been created around the work carried out at Prickly`s Patch Hedgehog rescue centre,at Riddings, near Alfreton,in Derbyshire,England.Within the following pages you will find information about the rescue, care and rehabilitation of Hedgehogs and other animals, along with many pictures of our facilities, the people that make our work possible, and of the Hedgehogs and other animals that have received our care.

Over the years we have helped hundreds of animals, and offered advice to many dozens of people. We are on hand,24 hours a day,365 days a year! This simply would not be possible without the help of our family and close friends(because even we need a holiday sometimes!)

We have featured on television programmes, such as`Animal Crackers`,and on many local radio stations. We also have an education programme, visiting schools, and offering informative talks to various organisations, with the aim of raising awareness of wildlife, and hedgehogs in particular.

About us:
Here at Prickly`s Patch we take in sick, injured or orphaned animals, and give them medical care and rehabilitation, with the aim, hopefully,of returning them to their natural enviroment. We have specially equipped facilities, enabling us to give the animals in our care the best possible chance of survival.
Our education programme takes us to schools, clubs, and outdoor events, while our main hospital unit can house many animals at a time

This September we aim to have another Prickly`s Patch Open Day.This will be the third one that we will have had,and they are more popular each year. The first one that we had in 2000 was held on a Wednesday,as we didn`t believe that many people would turn up.We were pleasantly surprised, however, that the event was very well attended, and there were even some American people over here on holiday, and they have since kept in touch, promising to visit us when they are over here again.

Our open day in 2001 was postoned, due to the Foot and Mouth outbreak, until mid-August,and this time it was held on a saturday. It proved to be even more popular than the previous one.We gave people the opportunity to meet the Hedgehogs in our care, and the visitors, especially the children, were delighted to be able to handle them.We also had informative video screenings, fund raising activities, various stalls with cakes, food, and also all manner of books, toys, badges etc, relating to Hedgehogs. There were also activities for the children, including face-painting,and a good time was had by all,not even the good old British weather could put a damper on things!

We hope that you will find this website informative, and that it may raise awareness of the plight of our native wildlife.
