It's now nearly 20 years since the first cases of Aids was openly reported to the world. What has changed since then? I sometimes think that not a lot has really changed.
But then I look around and see a lot of friends who would have died a few years ago still living. So yes, maybe we have come a long way since those early days.
What is there out there, that wasn't there all those years ago?
Well for one, it must be all the
new ( wonder ) drugs that we now have, and take so much for granted. Is it really these drugs that keep me alive, or is it the fact that I look after myself better. I don't know the real answer to that one, but it could be a bit of both.
When this first came about, there was only
AZT (zidovudine ) to get us through this mess, and what a time we had with that.
Doses where given at different levels to different people, no-one was given the same dose. It's no wonder that people felt as though they were suffering.
Oh how the times have changed. Now we can all have the same drug and get the same dose ( except where a dose is governed by the persons weight ). I can even compare notes with friends and talk about the side affects that we suffer, and how we got round them. This is just so different to what others have had to put up with.
