Hudson/Hodson

My Family

The spelling of this name varies through the parish records, and seems to be interchangeable, sometimes spelled with a "u" and sometimes with an "o".  The first reference to HODSON comes in 1755 with the marriage of THOMAS HODSON to MARY WARNER.  The first HUDSON  marriage is in 1786 when TILIT HUDSON was married to MARY WRIGHT.  Tilit and Mary must have had some education, as they were both  able to sign their names.

There is no record of the marriage of Thomas Hudson to Prudence Lurson at Pentney, but five children were baptised there.
For a number of years Thomas was the Parish Clerk for Pentney.

An earlier Firth - Hudson marriage
