G. ABELA, died 31st May 1916 at the Battle of Jutland. He was a Canteen Server on the Armed Cruiser HMS Black Prince. His ship had sustained some damage from a heavy shell during the day, but became separated from other British ships and around midnight came across German battleship Thuringen about 1,000 yards away. The German ship turned her powerful spotlights onto the Black Prince and opened fire with her 12inch guns. Less than a minute after the shells struck there were two massive explosions as the magazines blew up. Every one of the 857 men on board lost their lives
