L. GRASSO, died 31st May 1916 at the Battle of Jutland. He was a Bandsman on the Armed Cruiser HMS Black Prince. His ship had sustained some damage from a heavy shell during the day, but became separated from other British ships and around midnight came across German battleship Thuringen about 1,000 yards away. The German ship turned her powerful spotlights onto the Black Prince and opened fire with her 12inch guns. Less than a minute after the shells struck there were two massive explosions as the magazines blew up. Every one of the 857 men on board lost their lives

His record shows that he was in 'Cells' several times between May 1876 and 12th November 1880 when he left the Navy at his own request

 

Joseph LEWIS, Petty Officer Steward, E/LX20857, on board the cruiser HMS Calcutta, died 1st June 1941. His ship was north of Alexandria heading for Crete to assist in the evacuation when it was sunk by enemy aircraft

 

Carmel LIA, died 20th January 1918. He was a Stoker travelling on the Armed Boarding Steamer HMS Louvain, which was torpedoed by the German U-boat U22 in the Aegean Sea. Aged 20 years, the son of Michelina and Joseph Lia, and husband of Margherita Lia of 39 Strada Punta, Senglea

William Andrew LOUGE, 217769, born in Valletta on 28th September 1877. He joined the Royal Navy on 1st October 1901 as Signaller on board HMS Endymion, and made the Navy his career. He was promoted to Yeoman of Signals in October 1907, and Chief Yeoman of Signals on 1st June 1916. Prior to entering the Navy he had been a Private in the Royal Marines Light Infantry, and at the end of his career served in the Royal Air Force during 1918, and the Coast Guard Force 1919. He was discharged on 7th December 1920
