The German ship turned her powerful spotlights onto the Black Prince and opened fire with her 12inch guns. Less than a minute after the shells struck there were two massive explosions as the magazines blew up. Every one of the 857 men on board lost their lives

Joseph RAPA, Leading Steward, died 25th November 1941, on board the Battleship HMS Barham, which was torpedoed in the Eastern Mediterranean by the German U-Boat U-331. His ship exploded killing 862 members of the crew

Angelo REITANO, L4858, born in Valletta 8th March 1887. Joined the Royal Navy in October 1913 as an Officer’s Steward on board HMS Venus, and made the Navy his career. He served on several ships and re-entered the Navy on 17th September 1926 when his No. was changed to LX.20369
