Giovanni Maria SCIBERRAS, of Gozo, on board HMS Juno in 1793. His ship was a 32 gun Frigate, launched in 1780, with a total complement of 215 men. There were 60 Maltese on the shipís books and part of their wages was paid monthly to their families in Malta

 

Giuseppe SCIBERRAS, born 22nd January 1874, in Valletta, the son of John and Margarita Sciberras. He joined the Royal Navy as a Bandsman on 11th August 1893, and made the navy his career. He served on several ships, and was on HMS Vivid when he was taken ill in May 1918. He was placed in Plymouth Hospital suffering from tuberculosis then transferred to Beechwood House, Newport, Monmouthshire where he died on 27th August 1918, aged 43 years. His wife Rosaria Sciberras, nee Attard, of 48 Strada Vescovo, Valletta, predeceased him. He was buried in Newport (St.Woolos) Cemetery, Wales

Giovanni SPITERI, died 31st May 1916, at the Battle of Jutland. He was serving as an Officerís Steward on the Battle Cruiser HMS Indefatigable. Three armour-piercing shells fired by the German Ship Von der Tann, penetrated the Indefatigableís deck and exploded inside the ship blowing up a magazine. As the stricken ship started to sink by the stern more shells hit near the bow. This time within thirty seconds there was a violent explosion as another magazine blew up and the doomed ship heeled over and disappeared beneath the sea. It happened so fast that there were only two survivors, and 1,019 men lost their lives

Robert V. SQUIBBS, died 25th March 1942. He was Engineer Officer on the Fleet oiler Slavol. In the early hours of the morning his ship was torpedoed by a German U-boat off Sidi Barrani, whilst on a voyage from Alexandria to Tobruk with fuel oil. It sank within five minutes, 36 men lost their lives, and 20 survived. They were picked up by a Greek destroyer and taken to Alexandria

Giuseppe STORACE, 164250, born in Floriana 2nd July 1872. Joined the Royal Navy in February 1894 as a Domestic on board HMS Collingwood, and made the Navy his career. He became an Officerís Cook and served on several ships. He was killed in action on 31st May 1916, at the Battle of Jutland. He was serving on the Battle Cruiser HMS Indefatigable. Three armour-piercing shells fired by the German Ship Von der Tann, penetrated the Indefatigableís deck and exploded inside the ship blowing up a magazine. As the stricken ship started to sink by the stern more shells hit near the bow. This time within thirty seconds there was a violent explosion as another magazine blew up and the doomed ship heeled over and disappeared beneath the sea. It happened so fast that there were only two survivors, and 1,019 men lost their lives
