Moving on a decade, evocative images of the '50s are vividly recalled : illustrating the life in the city at that time. Swing into the '60s, with colour film capturing the changing fashions of an altogether livelier Gloucester. Amongst the earliest footage yet discovered, are unique images from 1932, when the citizens of Gloucester were treated to an air display by Sir Alan Cobhams' Air Circus.

An interesting compilation of films between 1935-38 - some in colour - taken by Colonel Collett, features scenes and events around the Docks; notably images of submarines being brought to Gloucester Docks in 1937.

Included is an evocative and vibrant colour film shot during the Queen's visit to Gloucester in 1955. Topics include: . . . The Roman Settlement - The Norman Cathedral - The Churches and Friaries - Streets, Shops and Houses - Crafts and Trades - The Ancient Inns - The Docks and Canal . . . . Written by Philip Moss.

HALIFAX .. A Journey in Time ... 1900 -1999

. . . Halifax a Journey Through Time 1900-1999, originally issued as the two-part VHS compilation above, makes available for the first time on DVD format a unique compilation of vivid images reflecting the momentous changes experienced by the people of Halifax during the twentieth century. These images were captured on film by local cine enthusiasts, many of whom became associated with the Halifax Cine Club, founded in 1937.

The historic footage includes evocative views of the changing townscape, rare glimpses into both the everyday life and the high days and holidays of the local community from the first filmed royal visit to Halifax of Princess Mary in 1925 to the first visit of her great-nephew Prince Charles in 1987. It sets these developments within the context of earlier pioneering developments in film technology in the first quarter of the twentieth century and concludes with panoramic views of the town in the 1990s.

It explores the decline of the town’s manufacturing industries, the growth of the service sector and tourism, changing patterns of recreation and leisure and the impact of World War, increasing traffic and clean air legislation on the life of the local community.

KIDDERMINSTER .. A Journey Through Time

. . . Take a journey through time and discover the story of Kidderminster. The growth and development of the town is followed from the 11th Century Royal Manor of Kidderminster to the modern town we know today. Many of the important figures from Kidderminster's history are introduced, including the Cokeseys, the Blounts and the Clares. We look at the ministry of Richard Baxter and the inventive pioneer of the modern postage system, Sir Rowland Hill, whose statue stands in the town. Kidderminster is famous for its carpet manufacturing industry and we look at its rise and fall and the effects this new wealth brought to the town.

Beautifully illustrated, our story incorporates delightful early photographs, drawings and paintings. Perhaps the most vivid and enchanting recordings of the town are early, never before seen films. LLANDUDNO . . . a HISTORY of

Llandudno is an elegant resort, it's stylish architecture and traditional seaside entertainment era a legacy of the Victorian era, during which time the town was carefully planned and laid out. The first dwellers lived here as early as the Stone Age, and the Great Orme mines date from the Bronze Age. Until the 1840's the area's fortunes rested on agriculture and copper mining, but this changed as a result of a vision to transform the village into a grand seaside resort. This dream was turned into reality by the Mostyn Family, and tourism has become Llandudno's most successful industry.

The story of the town is told using photographs, archive film and modern footage to illustrate Llandudno's development from the past to the present day. Topics include: The Copper Mines - The Mostyns - Transport - Schools - Chapels - Theatres - Seaside Entertainment on the Pier - The Promenade and Punch and Judy . . . written by Stuart. A. Rivers.

LLANGOLLEN ... A History of

. . . a history told with wonderful images of the town and the beautiful Dee Valley. The town's development is charted from its origins as a religious settlement in the 7th century to its present day role as a centre of culture and tourism. Llangollen is blessed with the myths and legends of St. Collen, Valle Crucis Abbey, Eliseg's Pillar and Castell Dinas Bran. The history of the Ladies of Llangollen and their home, Plas Newydd, is yet another remarkable story. The 17th and 18th century coaching inns demonstrate how this gateway to Wales has long been a popular stopping off point for travellers.

Today it is a favourite destination for tourists and day trippers, many of whom are drawn by the rich heritage of the town. Llangollen's strong connections with its past are kept alive by St. Collen's Church, the Bridge, the Railway, the Canal and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. The International Music Eisteddfod has made Llangollen a centre of culture, not just for Wales or Great Britain, but for the World. The bonus of this video is that it includes music by the Llangollen Male Voice Choir.
