Sixth BAAC Handicap, Bideford, 09/08/2000
The last of another successful handicap season. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way with the staging of the six events.
The last race affected several of the overall standings, with the overall winners as follows : Senior Men - Stuart Philps, Veteran Men - Frank Dunlop, Veteran Ladies - Maria Stone, Senior Ladies - Jo Wilson, Juniors - Jonathan Dymond. The junior category was particuarly well matched, with Ben, Reece and Douglas all 0.5 points behind Jonathan, a further half point back to Fern, and only two more back to Jamie. Jo won the senior ladies also by half a point, from her sister Tracey and Laura Fisher. The other winners were slightly more clear cut. Maria in her first season of racing was a clear winner from Tracy Lark and Lorrie Woolgar, Stuart had 3 points to spare over Tony Ellis, with Jon Parkinson third in the senior mens, while Frank "Bandit" Dunlop came from behind to secure victory over Bruce Gardner, with long-time leader Tony Andrews having to settle for third.

Round The Houses Races, Appledore, 10/08/2000
Not surprisingly, Peter Rigler led the field away, and when Ricky Butler caught him by the
first time up the hill, the smart money seemed to be on Ricky. Not this time though, as Pete
held on, and pulled away over the second circuit to win this event for the first time.

Race The Train, Tywyn, 19/08/2000
This race is exactly what is says - a race against a train. The narrow-gauge Talyllyn steam railway engine travels, mostly uphill for 14 miles 384 yards, and the object is for the runners to beat the 1 hour 45 minutes it takes the train. None of our entrants managed it, but in the accompanying 5.25 mile event, Kirsty Hamilton did so, taking just over 45 minutes, but as she is only 11 years old the organisers refused to award her the merited second lady prize.
