Bristol Half Marathon, 07/10/2001
After the IAAF World Half-Marathon had finished around Bristol City Centre, a full big-city type half was held, with Jim missing out on the 90 minute barrier by a heart-breaking single second. He did at least have the consolation of a new personal best.

Westward League Cross Country, St Austell, 14/10/2001
Winter is on it's way. We had a reasonable sizes turnout - with the senior ladies pairing of Vicky & Lorraine being our top placed finishers. Ricky had a fine run, starting cautiously before picking off over a dozen runners to finish 5th, with Mark, Andrew, Fern, Ben & Reece also finishing inside the top ten.

Arron and Matt were disqualified for not wearing club colours. Let this be a lesson to all of you :-). While we are on the subject, please ensure that if you are entering a race as a club member, please use the correct name, i.e. "Bideford AAC" rather than Bideford Blues or something like that.
North Devon 10K, South Molton, 14/10/2001
Thirty one Blues took on the rescheduled South Molton challenge this year, and it is likley it would been even more had it not clashed with the St Austell cross country. Peter led the men to a 1-2-3 finish, with Peter Rigler completing the scoring four for first team. A number of the ladies were running their first 10K, and all completed this difficult course in good times.

The juniors are back at it indoors with this being the first of five league meetings at Dawlish catering for the Under 10s to the Under 17s. Natalie Daniel picked up our only win of the event, with top-three finishes for Kelly Keefe, Chloë Bright, Erica Woolgar, Sophie Pearce, and Natalie again.

The Grizzly, Seaton, 21/10/2001
Another race that had to be cancelled earlier in the year, but saw no let up in the infamous conditions over the 18 miles of multi-terrain. The field held up too, with over 1000 runners. Mike Feighan continued his remarkable record in the race - four runs, four wins.

According to Steve Ashmore, this race gets longer every year - each year the organisers extend the course by a mile or so. Whatever, Steve had his best run for ages. Jenny picked up second lady and first vet prizes.

Peter will have to get his staff at Devonshire Pine to make him a new trophy cabinet as he picked up no less than five first place trophies at this race. 1st overall, 1st O/40, 1st Devon Champs overall, 1st Devon Champs O/40 and leading messrs Davis, Philps & Sturtridge to 1st team. Behind him, a large number of new pbs. The race attracted 157 runners.

Puma Stroud Half Marathon, Stroud, 28/10/2001
Over 1250 runners took part, with a number of Kenyans making their mark, especially in the men's race. Vicky took fourth lady, just behing Liz Yelling, while Neil punched the air with delight as he crossed the line, beating 1:25 for the first time.
