South West Schools Cross Country, Tauntone, 02/02/2002

Three of our members made it through to the SW round, held at Taunton racecourse on an absolutely horrible day. Mark Davies had the best run, coming 20th in the Inter Boys, and together with Kirsty Hamilton (39th Junior Girls) and John Spry (49th Junior Boys), should all have qualified for their first English Schools championships.

Inter County Cross Country, Nottingham, 09/02/2002

Thanks to our successful county champs results, a substanial number of Blues were able to represent Devon in the inter-counties. Vicky Pincombe had the best finishing position with an excellent 14th in the senior ladies (helping the team to 10th county), while Kevin Heywood led the Devon squad home.

Ladies day for the club at Exmouth, with 1st, 2nd & 4th to easily take the team title. Our top two finishers, Peter and Vicky, were both running their second race of the weekend, and both performed exceptionally. Further back, age group silvers for Maurice and Eric.

A good day for the seniors - Mike Feighan had a comfortable win in the mens, while we had 1-2-3 in the ladies, but as Lucy has already run for Exeter in the league this winter, she cannot count for our team score yet.

View From English National Cross Country Championships, Bristol, 23/02/2002

The "National" came as far South West as it has ever been, making it easier for our athletes to participate. Massive fields were, of course, the order of the day, with Kevin's performance probably standing out as the best, with Mark Davies fine run second.

A club record for Vicky, and she also beat the course record to claim a prize of 1 pound for each second breaking the record - a total of 13 pounds.
