COPPERWORKING.

Richard Taylor is one of a very small number of creative coppersmiths working in the UK and he has developed a range of highly specialised skills that enables him to hand beat fully three-dimensional figures.  The technique is certainly very unusual if not unique.
Copper is a wonderful material, it moves through a beautiful range of colours as it oxidises and patinates.  It is very durable, malleable and highly responsive in the right hands.  Despite all this it remains a relatively unusual medium, which in itself adds to the appeal for the discerning buyer.

‘Hermes the Herald; - Messenger of the Gods

Hand-beaten in copper this larger than life sculpture was commissioned as centrepiece for a conference of inter-governmental interpreters hosted by The House of Commons in December 1998.  It is planned to be incorporated into a wall mounted-garden feature with water running in rivulets through a wreath of acanthus beaten in copper in which the head is to be set.

‘The Apple-Taker’ A fully three-dimensional sculpture hand beaten in copper. The figure stands approximately 750mm high.  The effects of changing light produces changing expressions in this highly responsive material.

Two serene and matronly Naiads (Water Sprites) approximately 300mm in height. They are designed to sit by a little stream. The younger figure holding the bowl is a little fountain.  She sits at the head of the stream and represents  ‘The source’ as water flows unendingly from her bowl. The older figure sits serenely, pensively watching the stream as it hurries by.
