I apologise in advance for any mistakes I've made in translation. Although on occasion I've needed assistance from fluent Welsh speakers, some words have stymied even them. Most of the work is my own, and it's easy to get the wrong end of the stick - especially as many words are archaic or written indistinctly, have become corrupted over time, don't entirely follow the Welsh mutation rules, or are an odd adaptation of English.

628 - Caer Wttra = Field by the Lane.
629 - Cae Llygad y Dyrgi = Eye of the Otter Field? No, that makes no sense. Dwrgi or Dyfrgi is an otter, and there's a Cwmydwrgi not far from Mach, that was spelt Cwmydyrgi at the time the Tithe Maps were made. I've now discovered that Llygad can also mean the source (or eye) of a river, so perhaps Llygad y Dyrgi = Source of the Otter (river)? But there's no sign of a stream or even a spring in the field. Theory #2: Llwydgoed =grey wood > Llwytgoed > Llwytgod > Llycod >Llygad.

Toll St.), where there used to be a toll house.
687 - Werglodd Pensarn = Swamp
at the Top of the Causeway?
I'm struggling at this point. Pensarn
seems to be ( = top of the causeway). Could
Werglodd be derived from Gwernglodd ( = swamp/place that
floods/alder grove)? But it's mighty close to Erglodd, which in turn
could be derived from Gweirglodd, a hayfield. There are even more convoluted
possibilities. Oh dear.
