The latest book by Machynlleth historian and author David Wyn Davies is based upon the astonishing discovery of hundreds of letters written over the period 1896-1913 by Maurice Lewis, coachman at the Wynnstay Hotel, Machynlleth, founder member of the town's English Presbyterian Chapel and one of the founders of Machynlleth Institute. | |

Maurice lived at 1, Graig Villas, with his wife Emma and younger daughter Frances, and every Sunday wrote to his elder daughter, Lizzie Ann. She and her husband, local man David Hughes of Doll St, lived initially in London and later in Birmingham and Nottingham, where they raised their seven children. Maurice's letters demonstrate his deep faith, report on the great successes of Frances in her career as a singer and musician, and reflect his great affection for his family. His many snippets of Machynlleth news and gossip of the period are put in context by the author to reveal much about the town and its people. |
| The book is a limited edition hardback containing many historical photographs both of Machynlleth and of Maurice and his family.
