Wilmslow Chess Club Our Annotated Games To see each game, click on the appropriate entry in the lower set of page titles on the left. The inspiration for these pages comes largely from a BBC TV program shown years ago in which top players were filmed playing a game of chess and were then plied with wine and asked to say what they were thinking of during each move. The result was edited and presented as though you could hear them thinking during the game. It was highly entertaining and somewhat instructive and was a good portrayal of the chess struggle to people who don't play. In addition to this I have read at least one book of annotated games by a non-grandmaster who justified his work with the observation that there are elements of top level play that are beyond most of us and that more can be learned from the simpler games played by lesser mortals. For me his book proved his point. These pages then can be enjoyed by the non-player trying to understand what the game is about or by the beginner trying to improve his game or by the expert who fancies some very light relief. The comments I have made about my own games are as far as possible what I was thinking during the actual game and not an analysis after the event. With other people's games I will try to get their comments and will offer my own analysis without the benefit of moving pieces on the board. Hopefully this will lead to largely 'variationless' commentary which will be easier to follow. At a later date I will try to include some pictures of the board at various points in the game. Also by deliberately not using "frames" for this web site, the pages should be easy to save for enjoyment at your leisure. If you have any comments on the games or if you spot a winning move that has been missed, then please feel free to email me: robin.warhurst@lineone.net |
