Below you will find information about some of the timber I use in the making of Chairs, and other furniture. (some of it may not be avalable in your area.)
Boxwood:
Other Names:
- European.
- Turkish.
- Iranian.
Sources:
- Southern Europe.
- Asia Minor.
- Western Aisa.
Tree Characteristics:
- A small shrub like tree, reaching no more than about 30ft in height.
- It produces short lengths or billets, usually not more than 3ft 3in in length and up to 8in in diameter.
Characteristics of the wood:
- A very fine, even textured wood, it is hard, dense and heavy, and can have straight or irregular grain.
- Pale yellow in colour when cut, it mellows on exposure.
- It is a tough wood and has good bending properties.
Workability:
- A hard wood to work, but cuts very cleanly with sharp tools.
- It is an excellent wood for turning on a lathe.
- It glues readily.

- It stains well and polishes to a fine finish.
