Tree Characteristics:
- A tree of moderate size, usually reaching about 90ft in height,
with a trunk diameter of 2ft 6"
Characteristics of the wood:
- A hard, heavy, straight grained wood with fine texture.
- The sapwood is white and is selected for its light colour; The heartwood is a light reddish brown.
- The wood is hard wearing, but not naturally durable for exterior use.
Workability:
- A difficult wood to work with hand and machine tools, particularly when the grain is irregular
- It glues satisfactorily.
