European Walnut:
Below you will find information about some of the timber I use in the making of Chairs, and other furniture. (some of it may not be avalable in your area.)
European Walnut:
Other Names:
- English.
- French.
- Italian walnut etc. (according to origin).
Sources:
- Europe.
- Southwest Asia, etc.
Tree Characteristics:
- A nut bearing tree of moderate size, reaching about 100ft in height.
- The trunk is usually about 3ft in diameter, but can be more.
Characteristics of the wood:
- A rather coarse textured wood, with straight to wavy grain, typically grey brown with darker streaks, though the colour and markings can vary according to origin.
- Italian walnut is generally considered the
best for colour and figure.
- Walnut is a reasonably tough wood, with moderate durability and good steam bending properties.
Workability:
- It works well with hand and machine tools,and glues satisfactorily.
