About Shinsei Sensei (Roger Sheldon)

Roger Sheldon

Roger Sheldon has been training for twenty five years and holds the 6th degree black belt teaching rank. He is the founder and chief instructor of Shinseido.

Roger Sheldon was born in Dartford UK in 1944 and educated at Sevenoaks in Kent. He spent many years researching and developing a unique and holistic system embodying contemporary understanding of inter-personal relationships and communication skills along with functional and utilitarian practical methods of coping with violence. In 1976, he capitulated to requests to teach his system in a professional capacity. At the same time, he trained in the classical martial arts of Japan and Okinawa. Later he studied Shiatsu touch therapy. Today Roger Sheldon's whole life is oriented to teaching people how to cope with violence through his contemporary Project 5 system on the one hand and through classical martial arts on the other. Both disciplines have been fused together into a seamless whole to create Shinseido which Roger sees as a holistic life skill useful to every member of society.

Roger Sheldon has been recognised by the world's highest authorities as being a capable and responsible teacher in his chosen field, with a unique understanding of skills fundamental to the management of human aggression. He has provided training in martial arts, self-defence, coping with aggression, assertiveness, inter-personal skills, stress management, team building, counselling, interview techniques, negotiation skills and many related topics. At the time of writing he has taught more than 20,000 people within professional areas such as the Social Services, Health, Probation, Police and Prison fields and also many thousands more in the private sector. A number of his papers have been published and he has been featured in newspapers, journals and magazines, and on radio and television on several occasions. Today Roger specialises in teaching a totally peaceful physical response programme to staff working with people with learning disabilities.

Roger Sheldon is a registered graduate of the Master's Degree Course of the Institute for Research Into the Management of Aggression. He is an active registered member of Mensa and holds 23 black belt degrees thus: Shinseido 6th degree; Shorin Ryu Karate 5th degree; Okinawan Kobujutsu (weapons arts) 3rd degree; Shotokan karate 3rd degree; Wadoryu karate 3rd degree; Za-Zen Karate: Zen Shin Ryu 2nd degree; Michi Shin Kempo 1st degree.
