The Shindo Trust
The Shindo Trust is an umbrella organisation which encompasses a number of complementary areas of study:
- Shinseido - a modern method of self-defence and aggression management designed for ordinary people.
- Project 5 - taken directly from Shinseido, this peaceful response system focuses on providing carers with methods of managing aggressive behaviour on the part of their clients.
- Oriental martial arts - martial art training based mainly on historical self-protection arts of Okinawa, but also drawing upon the Chinese practices of Tai Ji and Kung Fu.
- Related practices - Shiatsu and Qi Gong are holistic practices closely related to martial arts and concord with the Shindo ideals of helping oneself and others.
Collectively these disciplines are known as Shindo. They are not, however, seperate areas of study. Rather, they are closely interwoven and dependent on one another. In the Shindo Trust it is our belief that self protection should be holistic in nature. That is to say that as well as a student's self-defence skills improving, they should also experience an improvement in their health, both physically and spiritually. Ultimately the aim of Shindo is to lead a long, healthy and happy life, and to have a positive effect on those around you.
The Shindo Trust incorporates the Institute for Research into the Management of Aggression (IRMA), a body set up in 1980 to explore the nature and violence and to disseminate the Project 5 Peaceful Response System.
