One of the attractions of owning a caravan is the ability to just get up and go. Often its a case of seeing what the weather forecast looks like for the forthcoming weekend, and just deciding what we fancy doing. Then we load up the 'van and head off. |

One favourite part of the world is the South Hams of Devon. We lived there for over five years and the countryside and beaches are wonderful. We paid a visit to the area a few years back in the caravan, staying at the Caravan Club's Broad Park site, situated between Ivybridge and Modbury. This excellent site is ideal for exploring Dartmoor and the South Hams. The beaches at Bigbury and Bantham are close by and Plymouth is just down the road with its famous Hoe and Barbican. |

The Eden Project in Cornwall is a little further away, but we decided to drive on down to St Austell to visit it. The site had not long opened to the public and many of the outdoor landscaped areas were still in the process of being planted up, but the whole thing was very impressive and we felt it would be great to come back in a few years time to see how it had developed and matured. |

A trip up to the Midlands, took us to the Clent Hills site of the Camping and Caravanning Club. The Club "Site Guide" mentions that some of the pitches are slightly sloping. From the pictures (right and below) you can see that we had to use more than a few bricks and blocks to get the caravan level. We visited various places around the West Midlands, but by far the most interesting was the Black Country Museum. Highly recommended! |

Further west is Shropshire, and we've used the Stanmore Hall site to visit Ironbridge Gorge, Shrewsbury and the aerospace museum at RAF Cosford........all great places to go at all times of the year. The Stanmore Hall site is open all year round and the pitches are grouped around a large lake (right) with the requisite ducks, geese and other feathered exotica. Lauren fround the provision of satellite TV to our Superpitch a bit of a novelty (and I must confess that on a cold night in February, it did suit me too!), while the dog found the ducks a rather tempting proposition to bark at. |
