His father was born in 1844 in Greenock's West, or Old Parish in Renfrewshire to parents John BLAIR (born 24/Feb/1822) and Isabella McCULLOCH (born 1815) also from Greenock. |
| When John was only 4 years old, with two youger brothers, Peter and William, his father died of consumption. His mother Mary Ann then left Glasgow to return to her family home in Dochlewan, a farm on the outskirts of Braco in Perthshire. Mary Ann died shortly after returning home. |
| Here the boys remained and grew up with their mothers
family. John became a carpenter and worked in many of the estates in the
surrounding area, including
Airthrey Castle
where he met his wife
Mary Stewart
After getting married in Edinburgh John and Mary moved through to Glasgow where their only child William, was born. John and Mary bought a house in Braco where they eventually retired to. They are both buried in Braco's cemetery. |
